Style Spotlight: Chloe + Isabel Merchandiser, Emily

Only one more day left, and the Most Stylish Campus Competition is heating up!  Today, we decided to highlight Emily from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  Not only is she in the running for America’s Most Stylish Student, but she is also shaping the fashion landscape as a Chloe + Isabel merchandiser! These fashion-forward entrepreneurs have excellent style and are running their own businesses at the same time.  Just a reminder: the 50 Most Stylish Students in America will receive a prize package that includes a piece of Chloe + Isabel jewelry!

Stylitics: How would you describe your personal style?

Emily: I always have a hard time answering this question because my style doesn’t necessarily fall into one category. My style changes from day-to-day based on how I’m feeling. I always tend to overload on accessories, and my style is often colorful and a little hippie/boho-esque. I try to take risks and not worry about what people might think. People often tell me they love my outfit combination but would never think to pair the items the way I did, which I guess is where my strength is - creating unexpected pairings!

S: What do you love about being a Chloe + Isabel Merchandiser?

E: Being a Chloe+Isabel merchandiser has been a great learning and growing opportunity. It’s been a unique chance to run my own business, meet and network with people and work within the fashion industry. I really love that I have the freedom to run my C+I business on my own time to make extra money, but more importantly, I’ve gained professional, organizational and business-savvy skills that I will utilize for the rest of my life.

S: How does your style reflect your collegiate spirit and campus life?

E: I’m always running around campus from class to class and from one extra-curricular to the next - I’m super busy, so I need to dress in a way that will allow me to get through my long days comfortably. Therefore, I’m usually dressed pretty casually. But this doesn’t mean I sacrifice style. You can still be stylish, practical and comfortable at the same time!

S: What are your three favorite C+I pieces and how do they complement your style?

E: The three pieces I’ve been wearing non-stop are: two finger pave stick ringbeaded + braided wrap bracelet, and turquoise + chain torsade necklace.  The ring complements my style because it’s a bit edgy and sparkly. The bracelet fulfills my color requirements, and the torsade necklace is chunky and a statement piece to decorate any day-to-day outfit!

Thanks so much, Emily!  Show her some style love today and follow her Style Profile here, and don’t forget to create yours for your chance to win a piece of Chloe + Isabel jewelry!

Good luck - and may the Most Stylish Campus win!

Sponsor Spotlight: Rent the Runway

With two days left in our Most Stylish Campus Competition, we want to spotlight one of our amazing partners, Rent the Runway, who is donating a gift card to the top 50 Most Stylish Students in America!!  Stylitics caught up with Jenn, co-founder of Rent the Runway, to get the low down on what’s new in the Rent the Runway closet, her take on the season’s trends, and how Rent the Runway was started.

What was your inspiration for creating Rent the Runway?

In 2007, Jenny and I met as sectionmates at Harvard Business School, where over frequent girls’ nights, we became fast friends. During a trip home for Thanksgiving, I watched my sister Becky struggle with a “closet full of clothes and nothing to wear” moment. Becky had an upcoming wedding and wanted something gorgeous to wear, but her modest salary meant that everything high-end was out of reach. What if, I thought, the Becky’s of this world could have access to their dream closet and a new dress for every occasion? When I returned to school Jenny and I met for lunch, and I shared Becky’s dilemma. As business school students, we started working on building the business immediately. Jenny and I had a rule from the very beginning of Rent the Runway to never write a business plan because we think that is a waste of time.  In our opinions, starting a business was going to be a series of iterative tests in the marketplace with each test eliminating some of the risks. We held a pop-up rental shop in an undergrad dorm at Harvard to garner initial interest in the idea.  We purchased dresses at retail (in our sizes in case it did not work out!) and watched girls twirl around in the mirror and share comments like “How hot do I look!”  After several focus groups with thousands of women, along with formative meetings with top designers and retailers, we launched Rent the Runway in November of 2009.

Style Spotlight: Chloe + Isabel Merchandiser, Danielle

To continue spotlighting our fantastic sponsors (and prizes) for the Most Stylish Campus Contest, we decided to feature some of the amazing campus Merchandisers at Chloe + Isabel!  These stylish entrepreneurs are not only shaping the fashion landscape with fantastic Style Profiles; they are also running their own businesses at the same time.

Today we caught up with Danielle at Syracuse (also in the running for Most Stylish Student in America) for a glimpse into her C+I faves and her fantastic sense of style.  Just a reminder - if you are one of the 50 Most Stylish Students in America, you will receive a piece of Chloe + Isabel jewelry!!

Sigh… if only I were still in college…

Stylitics: How would you describe your personal style?

Danielle: I’m a huge bargain hunter. My style is a mix of cheap, trendy finds and everyday traditional pieces that will last a lifetime. I like to mix comfortable with chic for an outfit I can wear everywhere! Most of the time, I wear natural colors with a pop of color in either my shoes or my accessories.

S: What do you love about being a Chloe + Isabel Merchandiser?

D:  I love being a Chloe + Isabel merchandiser because it gives me financial independence and an extra income to pay for my pleasures in life - mostly shopping! I get to meet so many great people through Chloe + Isabel and show off all the gorgeous jewelry.

S: How does your style reflect your collegiate spirit and campus life?

D: I would say my college life is pretty busy but extremely fun. I love meeting up with all my friends after class and running from one thing to the next each day, and I think my style reflects that. It’s fun and youthful while still having a bit of sophistication to it.

S: What are your three favorite C+I pieces and how do they complement your style?

D: I love the chain lariat with spike ends because it adds a bit of edginess to my otherwise girly outfit. The patina cuff adds that color I’m looking to add to an outfit, and I wear the two finger pave stick ring every day for some sparkle!

Thanks so much Danielle!  That cuff is awesome, and I’m always a fan of jewelry that could possibly double as weaponry.  So edgy.  Amazing picks!

Show Danielle some support and follow her Style Profile here!  And don’t forget to create your Style Profile for the Most Stylish Campus in America Contest - there’s still time!!
